CHRISTMAS GIFTS & EXPERIENCES:

ADD A TOUCH OF MAGIC WITH CALLIGRAPHY & PERSONALISATION

The festive season is the perfect time to get creative and come up with thoughtful, personalised touches. It’s actually my favourite time of year! There are countless ways to elevate gifts, but also to create moments of joy, surprise and connection through calligraphy, engraving and live personalisation.

Having taken part in numerous events over the years, I’ve seen first-hand how fascinated people of all ages are by traditional craftsmanship brought to life right before their eyes.

In this article, I’m sharing a few creative ideas for incorporating calligraphy, engraving and live personalisation into your Christmas gifts and events. Small touches that can make all the difference, turning an ordinary gift into a memorable experience.

1. IN-STORE EXPERIENCES: GIVE CUSTOMERS A REASON TO STAY (AND COME BACK!)

During the festive season, retailers get creative to attract shoppers and offer them something truly out of the ordinary.

Shop windows sparkle, Christmas playlists are on repeat, and customers are on the hunt for the perfect gift. But how can you turn an ordinary shopping trip into a memorable experience?

Picture this: a customer chooses a perfume, candle or piece of jewellery. Just a few minutes later, they walk away with their purchase beautifully personalised with a name or message, carefully engraved by hand.

And the best part? They got to watch it being created! The experience often sparks new ideas and inspires them to come back with another gift to personalise.

Live personalisation turns a simple purchase into a unique experience worth talking about and sharing. Engraving perfume bottles, calligraphy or hand-painted gift wrapping, hot foil personalisation on leather accessories… These in-store activations spark curiosity, encourage interaction and add an exclusive touch to the customer experience. A small detail with a big “Wow!” effect.

A few ideas for your Christmas in-store activations

  • Calligraphy on gift tags and wrapping: an elegant finishing touch that elevates the art of gift-giving.
  • Engraving on perfume bottles, Christmas baubles, wine glasses, candles or jewellery: a name or a few meaningful words to create a lasting keepsake.

  • Hot foil personalisation on gift ribbons and leather accessories: metallic initials for a refined finish.

  • Hand-painted details on packaging, products and bottles: an artistic, colourful and festive touch.

These activations can complement a collection launch, a VIP shopping day, a Christmas shopping weekend or a customer loyalty event.

And above all, they give customers one more reason to visit your store and spend a little more time there.

2. CORPORATE CHRISTMAS PARTIES: WHAT IF THE GIFT BECAME THE EXPERIENCE?

Traditional end-of-year gifts deserve a little magic too. Why simply hand out gifts when you can turn the moment into an experience in its own right?

At a Christmas party, corporate cocktail reception or VIP event, a personalisation station gives guests the opportunity to have their initials, name or a few words added to an object.

They choose their inscription, discover the art of traditional craftsmanship and leave with a one-of-a-kind piece. They chat, share their ideas and sometimes even have a laugh over their more unusual requests.

It’s a lovely way to thank your employees, partners or clients while bringing a creative and interactive touch to your corporate event.

Meaningful corporate gifts

Depending on your event and brand identity, a variety of items can be personalised:

  • Engraved glasses, water bottles and accessories.

  • Calligraphed notebooks, tags and cards.

  • Hot-foiled keychains, luggage tags and leather accessories.

  • Candles, perfume bottles and decorative objects.

If your company would rather offer ready-made gifts, personalisation can also be completed in the studio ahead of the event, in small or large batches. An ideal solution for employee gifts, VIP gift sets or thoughtful presents for business partners.

3. THE CHARM OF CRAFTSMANSHIP: A HUMAN TOUCH IN A STANDARDISED WORLD

At a time when so many gifts are mass-produced, a handcrafted detail naturally stands out.

That’s precisely what makes calligraphy and hand engraving so special. It’s not simply about adding a name to an object; it’s about giving it a personal touch and a story of its own.

Live personalisation also creates a moment of curiosity. Guests stop, watch, ask questions and discover a craft they may not have encountered before.

This encounter between the artist, the object and its recipient creates an authentic experience, far removed from impersonal gifts.

For brands, it’s also a way to extend their identity and attention to detail into the gifts they offer.

4. HOW TO INCORPORATE A PERSONALISATION EXPERIENCE INTO YOUR CHRISTMAS EVENT

The good news? A calligraphy or engraving activation requires a fairly simple setup. All you generally need is enough space to display the gifts, accommodate the artist and allow guests to discover the personalisation process.

The choice of technique depends on the material, the number of guests and the time available.

For example, a short engraving can take as little as two minutes. During a four-hour event, up to approximately 80 items can be personalised, depending on the technique and complexity of the inscriptions.

For events welcoming larger numbers of guests, several artists can work simultaneously.

The secret to a successful activation? Planning ahead when it comes to the items, quantities and type of personalisation. Products can be supplied by your brand or specially selected for the occasion.
